Real Man

There was a man who was conscripted into the British Army

Aged just seventeen and new to this game

He was trained in various things as soldiers are

The use of a Lee Enfield rifle

Driving Bren Gun Carriers and trucks

Firing 25-pounder field guns

Gun crew on 155mm howitzers

How to use a radio and much more

He did his training while the war was on

And remembers the Allied warplanes flying above

Going to attack the enemy in Europe

But he didn’t see combat against the Hun

Their unit was kept back for some reason

He part of the Allied Occupation Force of Japan

And saw the Far East

Asian nations abounded like an exotic list:

India, Malaya, Singapore and Hong Kong

This soldier served his country well

He was my dad
